NADRA Official Clarification About CNIC Signatures
“N/A” on your CNIC signature section is completely valid

NADRA has officially clarified that providing a signature while applying for a CNIC for the first time is optional. This clarification helps many citizens who are unable to sign due to illiteracy or other reasons.
What Happens If You Cannot Sign?
According to NADRA, if an applicant:
- Does not want to sign
- Is unable to sign due to illiteracy
- Has difficulty signing physically
Then the CNIC will officially show (N/A) in place of the signature.
Why Thumb Impressions Are Not Printed
NADRA also explained that thumb impressions or any other marks are not printed in the signature section of the CNIC.
This policy helps:
- Prevent fraud and forgery
- Protect biometric information
- Avoid unauthorized misuse

How to Add or Change Signature Later
Citizens who already have a CNIC can later:
- Add a new signature
- Update an existing signature
This can be done by submitting a Modification Request to NADRA. Signature updates can also be made during CNIC renewal.
Final Words
If your CNIC contains “N/A” in the signature field, there is no need to worry. It is fully valid according to NADRA’s official policy.
